We were very pleased to celebrate 40 years of Betty Farnworth being a member of the Rossendale Ladies Choir today. Sadly, Betty has just had to resign from the choir but has given us forty years of sterling service as a singer, assistant treasurer and wardrobe mistress during her years with us. The Chairman and Secretary of the choir visited her home to give her a gift voucher and flowers to thank her for her much valued service and wish her a long and happy retirement from choir duties.
The Rossendale Ladies choir started in 1977 and happily still has a number of members from around that time still active. The choir has awards for ten years, twenty one and thirty years of service, but we recently decided that we now needed to honour those with forty years’ service. Other long-standing members will receive their awards at our AGM this year.
The Rossendale Ladies Choir has ladies from all age groups and backgrounds. The choir started in 1977 and we are lucky to have some of our early members still singing with us. We have a small handful of nonagenarians in the choir and Velma Hoyle, a second soprano joins their ranks when she turns 90 on Sunday 27th January 2019.
The Chairman Janice Crowley and Secretary Karen Whittaker took flowers, cards and a Birthday cake to Velma at her home in Waterfoot to help her celebrate. The choir polished off a large chocolate cake in her honour at their rehearsal last night. A big thank you to this lovely lady for her years of service, fabulous singing and the help given to newer members in learning the choir repertoire.
