Rossendale Ladies Choir
This report was received by the Ladies Choir
after our recent successful concert in Bocholt :
‘Following the concert at the Brauhaus on 6 May 2012, a report in the local newspaper listed the nine participating choirs, but said nothing about the individual performances.
Two days later, there was a letter in the newspaper praising the outstanding performance of the Rossendale Choirs. A translation of the letter follows:
“I quite agree with your opinion – a very successful concert. This general assessment, however, ignores the outstanding performance of the choirs from Rossendale. Individually, as Ladies’ and Men’s Choirs, and then equally convincing when they made their joint entrance with a supremely good performance.
With remarkable precision and vocal brilliance, they presented a mixed programme which included different styles from Mendelssohn to the Beatles.
The happy and cheerful conductor, Kate Shipway, communicated the joy and pleasure in the music from the singers to the audience – which was unstinting in its applause.
Rossendale Choirs Perform in Germany
The Rossendale Ladies Choir and the Rossendale Male Voice Choir visited our twin town of Bocholt over the May Bank Holiday weekend. The visit was at the invitation of the town to help them celebrate their European Town Festival event which coincided with the 60th. Anniversary of twinning.
The Rossendale Ladies Choir has been twinned with the MGV Sangerbund Male Voice Choir for over twenty-five years and have enjoyed many exchanges and concerts with them.
The town has a very European focus and many groups from Europe, and beyond, performed at venues throughout Bocholt over the weekend. It was a joyous and enjoyable occasion and it was heart-warming to wander around the lovely town and bump into a variety of Rossendale people from our various twinned groups , including the 2nd. Rossendale Scout Band, Rossendale Artists, sports groups and many others. It felt like “Home from Home”.
Both Choirs and the Scout band performed in the large St. Georg church in the town Centre on Sunday morning along with other choirs from a range of different countries. The church was packed with people and it was a truly harmonious event. The band and the two Rossendale choirs really did Rossendale proud, in this very moving service.
Later in the day many of the choirs performed in the “Chormusik verbindet Europa” concert at the Bocholt Brauhaus. The Rossendale Ladies Choir and the Rossendale Male Voice Choir performed a range of songs from their repertoire and were much appreciated by the European audience.
